Ten years ago, I embarked on a new phase of my life, finally living independently without my parents. However, I quickly discovered that apartment living wasn’t my preference, and a falling-out with my roommate led me to move out.
Over the next five years, I tried living in two other places with roommates, but it became clear that living with others was challenging. So, I set a new goal for myself: to live on my own. Eventually, I found a small duplex, got a pet kitty, and thoroughly enjoyed my solo living experience. Contrary to my initial fears, I found independence empowering and began to appreciate my own company.
Things took a turn when the duplex was put up for sale, and I had to constantly keep it clean for potential buyers to visit anytime, which felt intrusive and unpleasant. This led me to set yet another goal: purchasing my own house, entirely on my own terms.
In April 11, 2021, after three years of hard work, I achieved that goal and became a proud homeowner. Reflecting on the past 10 years and the goals I had set for myself, I felt a surge of pride and nostalgia. I had overcome obstacles and kept moving forward, which was truly gratifying.
Now, my life has taken a beautiful turn, and I am with the love of my life. We have set a new goal together—to find a house, purchase it jointly, and rent out the other two properties for additional income.
Coming across these memories made me contemplate the question we often face as kids in school: “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?” Well, here I am, having accomplished what I set out to do! I am excited to create new goals for the next 10 to 20 years, cherishing the present moment and making the most of my life.
Gratitude fills my heart as I thank the higher power for the opportunities that have graced my life. I am eternally grateful for the man I am with and believe that 18 years ago, God showed me the person I would grow old with. Today, I am living the life that was intended for me, and I am confident that there are more fulfilling relationships ahead. I finally feel complete and content!
